Walking along the Green Belt is an unforgettable experience without equal. Where there was once a supposed deathly silence, today the fauna and flora are busy trying to win over the protected nature. The size of the 44-year-old border fortifications in central Germany accompanies us on the almost 650 kilometer long walk, with the help of still existing border remnants, memorial sites and experienced fates. We pass the Harz, the Harz foreland, the Altmark, the Wendland and arrive at the Elbe. From there we walk through the rich lake landscape along the Schaalsee and the Ratzeburger See via Binnendünen to Lübeck and from there to the Baltic Sea. Every day offers numerous impressions and new insights. Every step reminds us of the great good of freedom, human dignity and justice.
