Craft techniques such as weaving or embroidery, tailoring or pottery, turning or engraving have been passed down from generation to generation in Tyrol for centuries. Craftsmen refine these traditional techniques and combine them with modern design.
Susanne Gurschler visited about 20 workshops in Tyrol for her book, which create something sustainable. Whether wood or wool, metal or glass, leather or porcelain - under the hands of the craftsmen the materials come to life, old crafts become fresh and tangible.
The author follows the fire that drives the portrayed, explores the special features of the techniques and looks at the demands that traditional craftsmanship must meet today. The "Handcraft in Tyrol", illustrated with photographs by photographer Kary Wilhelm, provides a fascinating insight into the diversity of Tyrolean craftsmanship.
