Anyone looking for a way out of the popular main route Camino Francés as a pilgrim is located directly on the Caminho Português. The second most popular - and much shorter - St. James leads from Portugal to Santiago de Compostela and also offers ideal conditions for an intensive pilgrimage experience. The 240 km long Caminho Português starts in the city of Porto and heads north via Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Valenca.
In Tui the path reaches Spain and finally takes pilgrims to Santiago via Pontevedra. The experienced pilgrim and author Raimund Joos describes the route in his book in detail as usual and provides useful recommendations for hostels and guesthouses.
