Seen from above, the second smallest island of the Canary Islands is simply a circular mountain jutting out of the Atlantic Ocean. Close up, Gomera turns out to be very diverse: while the north promises greenery, tranquility and an excellent climate, there are some dark beaches in the south, which are better developed for tourism, and the contemplative capital San Sebastián in the east. The Valle Gran Rey in the west retains hippie flair to this day - in the 1970s the bucolic banana island was the destination for flower children from all over the world. The flat-topped peak of the island's mountain covers the ancient cloud forest. Part of the Garajonay National Park, it is today the dream destination for hikers legally expanding their awareness in the still haunted world of ferns, mosses and lichens.
