The core of European culture has impressive testimonies of a great history: the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the ancient Roman capital of Gortis and the Arkadi Monastery, which commemorates Turkish rule and the resistance of the Cretans. But even solo travelers get their money's worth - they still exist, the undeveloped beaches and picturesque bays, especially in the southern part of the island of Crete.
