Today, the Zillertal presents itself to its visitors as a fascinating place of contrasts. Tourism, the energy industry and modern industrial enterprises have brought prosperity and improved infrastructure to the people of the valley, as well as massive interventions in their living space. At the same time, the Zillertal still has centuries-old cultural landscapes and unspoilt, fantastically beautiful nature reserves with unique flora and fauna. At higher altitudes, the eternal ice of the glaciers and the famous mountain peaks, on which the history of mountaineering was written, are also very attractive. In this beautifully illustrated book, photographer Horst Ender portrays his native country in emotional images. He provides insight into the culture and customs of the Zillertal and shows the beauty and wildness of the mountain world from unusual angles. The texts are supervised by Gudrun Steger, who has been working with the Zillertal and its history, culture and nature for many years.
